The Wigley Group co-sponsors Princethorpe College’s National Schools’ Two Day Equestrian Event

A flagship equestrian event in Warwickshire for school and riding club competitors from all over the UK is saddling up for its best ever year with two local businesses on board.

The Two Day Event run by Stoneleigh Riding Club and held at Princethorpe College has been boosted with property companies The Wigley Group and Howkins & Harrison as joint main sponsors.

They are now encouraging other local businesses to show their support for the horse trials which is the only event of its kind in the UK.

Some 240 riders are set to compete in the ‘long format’ event which encompasses dressage, show-jumping, roads and tracks, steeplechase and cross-country disciplines over two days on the estate at Princethorpe, Rugby.

They will be joined by a bigger field of supporters and spectators during the Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26.

Wendy Bell, chairman of Stoneleigh Riding Club, said: “We are very fortunate to have The Wigley Group and Howkins & Harrison as joint main sponsors. The costs of putting on the event are quite considerable and we couldn’t do it without them.

“The Two Day Event is now in its 16th year and with their support, we are hoping it will bring even more competitors and spectators from across the UK.”

Both main sponsors have strong connections with Princethorpe College, and The Wigley Group has created a water jump in the grounds which will be a main feature of the cross-country course.

James Davies, managing director of The Wigley Group, said: “We are delighted that Howkins & Harrison are joining us as main sponsors this year and hope that other local businesses will support our ambitions to build on the success of this unique event for schools and riding clubs.”

Jeff Paybody, partner at Howkins & Harrison, whose daughter is again due to compete as part of the Princethorpe College team, said: “With our connections with property and the countryside, it is a great event to be supporting and we would encourage other companies particularly with rural interests to get involved as a fence sponsor or trade stand exhibitor.”

Alex Darkes, assistant head at Princethorpe College, said: “This is the fifth year that the Two Day Event has been run on the estate and we are incredibly grateful for the support of The Wigley Group and Howkins & Harrison as main sponsors and Stoneleigh Riding Club as organisers, all of whom have very strong Princethorpe connections.”
