New roller is 12th man in Leamington success

Leamington Cricket Club has thanked a Warwickshire company for suppling a vital 12th man in its promotion-winning season.

The club sealed promotion to the Birmingham and District League with a last weekend win over Tamworth – but their impressive home form had been boosted by the help of the Wigley Group, a Stockton-based property, development and construction company in the Midlands.

When the club’s 50-year roller broke down, it threw home games into doubt but Coventry-based Clements Plant and Access Hire sourced and supplied the new roller, which has been sponsored by the Wigley Group, and that allowed the club to continue its promotion chasing season at home.

The club recorded back-to-back wins over Himley and Tamworth to seal their elevation to the top regional league.

Club chairman Kevin Mitchell said: “Without the new roller there would be no cricket here at Leamington Cricket Club and we are extremely grateful that our partners, the Wigley Group, were able to lend their support and provide a new one.

“We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with the Wigley Group for a number of years now, and have no doubt that it will continue in the coming seasons.

“Their continued support is extremely important to us, and we are grateful to the company and Clements for coming together and providing the club with a much-needed upgrade allowing us to have a shot at promotion.”

The Wigley Group has been official sponsors of Leamington Cricket Club for the past two years.

Chairman of the Wigley Group, Robert Wigley said: “Leamington Cricket Club is an important institution for the local area and the wider Warwickshire region, and we are always more than willing to lend a hand where necessary.

“Seeing their success is extremely rewarding and I hope that this new roller will serve them well in the years to come and help them go on to achieve their sporting goals.”
