Around 2,000 runners expected for The Wigley Group Warwick Half Marathon

Preparations are underway for the Wigley Group Warwick Half Marathon which takes place this weekend.

The race is organised by Warwick Racecourse and is set to attract in near 2,000 competitors to the town on Sunday, March 1.

It starts from the racecourse at 9am and will be raising money for the Barrie Wells Trust

Box4Kids initiative.

Box4Kids gives VIP experiences at sport and entertainment events across the UK for seriously and terminally ill children through the use of executive boxes, and they have provided more than 9,000 children with experiences to date.

World and European athletics medallist Jenny Meadows will be starting the race.

There will also be a 2.5k family fun run taking place for children aged between six and 16.

Entry for the fun run costs £5 on the day with all proceeds going to the Barrie Wells Trust

Venue facilities include registration and bag drop, chip timing, water stations, catering, toilets, an equipment shop, wheelchair accessibility, massages, event photography and car parking.

There is limited parking in the centre of the racecourse due to wet conditions and athletes and supporters are advised to arrive early and be prepared to utilise town centre car parks.

All athletes that complete the race will be entitled to a free half pint of Hooky Ale at the finish line, donated by Hook Norton Brewery.

Andre Klein, General Manager at Warwick Racecourse, said: “Last year’s event was a huge success and this year is gearing up to be another great day.

“It really is an event for everyone, from club runners down to youngsters taking part in the family fun run.

“There is still time for prospective runners to enter the race and enjoy the beautiful route through the Warwickshire countryside.”

The event is UKA affiliated and will follow the traditional route through the Warwickshire countryside, before finishing back at Warwick Racecourse.

It will be the second successive year that The Wigley Group has been title sponsor of the event.

James Davies, Managing Director of The Wigley Group, added: “We are delighted to be supporting the Warwick Half Marathon for a second successive year.

“A team of staff from The Wigley Group will be taking part on the morning and it’s set to be a fantastic day. Supporting this event is part of our long-term commitment to promoting health and wellbeing.”
